With the first two races (May 22 & 23) on the 2020 Midwest Power Series schedule either cancelled or postponed, the likelihood of additional cancellations and/or postponements looms on the horizon as the corona virus pandemic lingers on. The situation changes in various states on a regular basis, but here in the state of Minnesota racing is still not allowed at present. There are rumors and speculation that when the next round of openings take place, race tracks may be allowed to open without fans. If that were to happen, it still means no racing for the exciting 360 winged sprint car division given the fact that most, if not all, tracks must be able to draw fans in order to run this class.
The month of June was scheduled to shape up with races at the Jackson Motorplex on June 5 and 19, at the I-90 Speedway in Hartford, SD on June 6, at the Princeton Speedway on June 12 and at the Ogilvie Raceway on June 13. With four of the five dates listed at Minnesota tracks, those shows currently would be in jeopardy of not be held as scheduled. A situation during the season opener at the I-90 Speedway in Hartford, SD on May 23 has cast some doubt on whether the Midwest Power Series would be able to participate. It was reported that the track did not have an ambulance on premises which is clearly not good safety protocol. Further discussions with the MSTS 360 Sprints and I-90 Speedway will take place in order to ascertain if they will have a properly staffed and equipped ambulance on premises for the June 6 event which is slated to be a combined MPS/MSTS 260 sprint show.
Stay tuned for further details, as schedule adjustments will continue to take place. Stay safe, stay healthy and hopefully we will be racing sooner rather than later.
