Inside Line Promotions – SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Jan. 27, 2021) – A busy racing schedule has Kaleb Johnson anticipating the 2021 sprint car season.
“We’re looking forward to running a full schedule this year,” he said. “Last year was a really weird year in general. I don’t think we raced 20 times. We just want to race as much as we can this year. We have about 40 races penciled in and we’re pretty much ready to go. We’re just waiting to get our engines from the builder.”
Johnson will focus on Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, for the second consecutive year. He plans to compete at the half-mile oval regularly and hopes to improve on his ninth-place finish in the 360ci championship standings in his first year at the track.
“Knoxville is a tough place to race and it eats up a lot of your summer,” said the track’s 2020 360 sprint car Rookie of the Year. “But we want to race against the best competition possible and we feel that Knoxville has some of the best 360 competition in the country. After racing there last season it was an easy decision for us to return to Knoxville this year because of the strength of competition.”
Johnson will compete with a pair of local 360 sprint car series when Knoxville Raceway is dormant.
“We also plan to race with the Midwest Power Series and the MSTS Series when it fits our schedule,” he said. “They race close to our home and have strong competition, too. We may also be adding some special events. Hopefully, we can share more about those later.”
Johnson plans to open his racing season at the South Dakota Sprint Car Nationals hosted by Park Jefferson International Speedway in North Sioux City, S.D., April 9-10 and conclude the year in October with a first-time visit to a track.
“I’ve always wanted to go south and race at the end of the season,” he said. “I noticed Dodge City Raceway Park (in Dodge City, Kan.) is having a three-day race Oct. 7-9 so I think we’ll try to make that one if everything goes well.”
