Power Series sets sights on Rocky and Ogilvie

With the opening weekend officially in the scorebook, The Midwest Power Series will embark on doubleheader weekend number two this coming weekend, with tracks in Iowa and Minnesota on tap.

This coming Friday, June 18, The Quality Freight Rate Midwest Power Series will again join forces with the MSTS and meet up at the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids Iowa. Rapid Speedway is a 3/8ths mile dirt oval located on the Lyon County Fairgrounds, and has hosted the MPS once before in 2020. Justin Henderson brought home the win last season at the Northwest Iowa Track, and while that was the only MPS date on record, the facility is no stranger to winged sprint cars. MSTS has visited the facility a total of 21 times (Jack Dover being the most recent winner on May 21) and other series like ASCS, NCRA, and the Minnesota Mafia tour have all raced at Rocky as well. The show will feature a $2,000-to-win purse along with an extra $100 from Broty Race Engines to win a heat race. Donnohue Designs will present a hard charger award, and MSTS contingencies will also be in play. For more information on Rapid Speedway, visit them online at www.rockrapidsspeedway.com.

Night number two of the double-header weekend will take place at Ogilvie Raceway on Saturday, June 19. The Minnesota sprint car community gathers each year to honor and celebrate the life of sprint car fan, mechanic and car owner Davey Tabor during what is one of the most anticipated events on the Midwest Power Series schedule. This 9th edition of the Davey Tabor Memorial is one of the biggest of them all. The largest total purse of any Davey Tabor memorial race will be up for grabs to the talented field of drivers committed to racing it, and it features a winner's share of $2,500. The event has featured 7 different winners in the 8 years it has been held. Brooke Tatnell, Scotty Thiel, Jerry Richert Jr., Thomas Kennedy and Chris Graf, Derrik Lusk, and Justin Henderson have all won the event. Thomas Kennedy is the only repeat winner. In 2020, the Tabor Memorial was lost due to COVID restrictions, and we are all very excited to get back to the Central Minnesota short track.

The current points leader coming into the weekend is Jody Rosenboom on the back of two runner-up finishes to open the year last weekend at Jackson Motorplex and I-90 Speedway. That gives him a slim 4 point edge over opening night winner Lee Grosz and a 7 point cushion over night 2 winner Ryan Bickett. Jack Dover sits just 10 points back, and Eric Lutz 19 points back in 5th. Jody Rosenboom is also in control of the MSTS points standings, 4 points ahead of defending MSTS champion Eric Lutz.

The QualityFreightRate.com Midwest Power Series is a 360 winged sprint car series based in the upper Midwest. It was formed by Randy Grages of Midwest Power Equipment in 2015 as a “series within a series” featuring added purse money at several UMSS 360 winged sprint car shows. It continued to gain momentum in 2016, and in 2017 Greg Parent of GRP Motorsports out of Stillwater, MN came on board as a race sponsor and series point fund sponsor. Today, Greg Parent directs the series and it has become a premier racing series in the upper Midwest.
